January Cure- Assignment 7
Man, after the holidays you always look forward to relaxing and taking things a little slower in January. Not this year apparently. Between work, life and the January Cure I am one busy bee! I may be doing more and going to bed later but at least I feel accomplished when all is said and done.
Well, most days.
I ended up doing last night's dishes this morning. And by "doing the dishes" I mean loaded them into the dishwasher, so there's that. But still, I'm getting stuff done.
Assignment 7 is a two-parter, but it's pretty simple.
First, remember all the different places you sat in your home checking out the views? Take some pictures from those same places. Take some pictures from the views you usually have to, just document your home, as it is, no explanation needed. Now, really look at those photos and see what sticks out to you. Is the lighting too bright? Too dark? Are there too many knickknacks on the bookshelf? Is there an empty spot somewhere begging for artwork, furniture, or whatever? Taking "before" pictures of things is a great way to help you keep track of your progress or just reminisce.
Moving into, or out of, a house is funny. It seems like it's just a building but it's so much more. It's a home. A home that typically others have loved and changed and cared for just like we do. After a while, the whole energy changes to match your own rhythm and you can't imagine a time when it wasn't yours. On the other side, we still have the condo we lived in for the first 9 years of our marriage, but now it's a rental unit. Walking in there is weird. I remember painting those walls, laying that tile, picking out that light fixture, but they're no longer ours and the place is foreign.
Part 2- Pick a project!
Ok, back to our regularly schedule programming, grab that list we made on Day 2 (yeah, that one) and figure out which one you're going to do.
Since I knew we'd be picking a project (and I'm an overachiever) I picked this way back on day one. I'm (finally!) going to paint the kitchen cabinets. The further along we've gotten with everything else in the kitchen, the more I see that we need to change the color, pronto. What started as a nice "creamy yellow" soon turned into "muted yellow" which evolved into it's current color of "dingy yellow" that I can't believe was ever the top choice for anything, let alone cabinets.
I've already done a ton of research on painting cabinets and tackled my first chalk paint furniture project (coming soon!) so I'm ready! All we have to do is pick out the color and we're golden! Even luckier for me is that this weekend's task is to clean the kitchen, so you bet I'll be scrubbing those cabinets extra clean to prep for painting!
Assignment 8 is in the books! Let's keep the momentum going!
