Be honest. You thought I was ghosting you again, didn’t you?

No such luck, pal. You’re stuck with me. Well, as stuck as you can be while voluntarily visiting this page :)

Day two was more of the same for me as day one. Home with a sick kid- round two. At least she stopped getting sick so I could enjoy the cuddles without wearing a poncho.

Day 2’s task is to go around your house with a critical eye and find all the things that need to be changed or fixed. The funny thing about being married to an architect is he does this constantly whenever we’re someplace new. New restaurant? I hope you thought about sound dampening and hiding those sprinklers in the ceiling. New store? We’re the walls finished right? I joke that between his typical architect commentary and how much I helped him study for his exams, I could be a licensed architect. (Not really, honey, you know you’re the architect here. However, I’ll continue to build all the kids’ toys with the 8000 pieces.)

But back to the task at hand. With a wee babe on my hip, I went around and picked the top three things I want to do in each room. Now, I know the real task was to list everything then pick just a few, but I adjusted to suit my needs. Plus, there’s only so many lines on a piece of paper.

From that list, I picked my top 3 things I want to fix during this January Cure.

1.) Get a new pot rack.

My pots and pans are driving me insane. They’re stacked in a cabinet and I always need the one that’s in the middle of the pile. I’m on the hunt for a pull-out hanging pot rack to end the madness.

2.) Childproof the cabinets…again.

One of the nicest things about your kid getting older is they can be trusted to open cabinets themselves and not make you regret their access. Self-sufficient kids for the win!

But now the baby is getting to that toddler stage and the cabinets are now fair game. She seriously opened them up yesterday and took out her own puffs. Which was much better than today when she took out 100 plastic baggies in one swoop. So child locks it is!

3.) Living room end tables.

We’ve had a lot of changes around since I’ve last posted. For multiple reasons, we removed the wood stove in the living room. We also got some new couches. And we desperately need new end tables to fit the new layout. I found a great one on sale at Amazon last week, now I just need a couple more and we’re set.

So Day 2 was complete and onto day 3.

Set up an outbox. Find an out of the way place to put things that you no longer need but can be useful to someone else.

Honestly, this is one of the best things anyone can do. I’m in no way a minimalist. I’m admittedly the stereotypical woman with too many shoes to count. But I’m also mad for only keeping things that I actually like and use. As cliche as Kon Marie can sound, your stuff should “spark joy.” I’m all for making sure that the things in our home fit the bill. Plus, the less “stuff” there is the easier it is to keep clean.

Bonus fact is remembering that someone else may happily use whatever is you have just taking up space collecting dust.. Let’s stop filling up landfills with useful stuff, m’kay?

Needless to say, I’ve always got an outbox going. It hangs in the basement and depending on the time of year, sometimes moves out to the garage for a bigger drop-off. I like to let mine hang around for a couple months this way I can make sure I don’t have donation regret.

Day 4, I’ll see you tomorrow!
