New year, New Projects

Hello and Happy New Year!

No, we haven’t had any snow yet, but it’s so much prettier to look at the photo than to have to shovel it!

This is such a different New Year’s post since it’s the first year I’m not officially trying to do Apartment Therapy’s January Cure.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m still starting the year with a miles long to-do list, it’s just on my timetable and I definitely won’t be done in 4 weeks!

January Cure for the win!

I recommend trying the January Cure if you haven’t. Even if you start it in a couple weeks, your home will be better for it. After doing it for so many years the tasks have become habits- whether it be focusing on one area for a deep clean, or a purge, and just taking things one step at a time.  There are many places in my home that are better for doing the Cure and really keeping it up.  My linen closet and junk drawer are proof.  While they may get messy, I know I can whip them into shape with the organization I have within 20 minutes.

I will admit to missing it though and maybe I’ll pick a different month and run down the tasks but for now I have my sights set on a different goal. Every couple weeks, I’m going to focus on one area of our home, both inside and out, that needs some work. Some will be new projects, some will be completion projects, but all will (hopefully!) end up looking great!

One thing I’ve realized is that we are famous for taking a project to 90%, then life gets in the way and it sits *almost* complete indefinitely. The  almost finished is always a great improvement from what was there, but of course will look so much better completed. So that’s where I’m starting!

This photo was taken a couple years ago, a little bit before we “finished” our mini kitchen facelift. Some of the work that I’m doing this month has been waiting that long to be completed.

First up is the kitchen!

I started this blog as we were starting some work on the kitchen but there are still details that need to be complete.  The trim work is going to get finished, and some of the seams in the new vinyl floor we installed need to be filled, and maybe some new artwork is going to go up, too.

Plus, I think we finally decided on a paint color to paint the breakfast area. I’m happy to report that the Kilz Primer was great not only at stopping the original knotty pine wood from showing through, but survived the many times the kids splattered paint, or spaghetti sauce, all over it.

So welcome back to this journey of ours, where you can join me tackling projects and learning along the way!
